Fashion Forward: Blake Lively

When Miss Lively walks into a room, her style and beauty have the ability to melt everyone around her.  The new ‘it’ girl in tinsel town, Blake Lively is beaming in pop culture TV series and Hollywood films everywhere.  It’s no secret that we eagerly tune in to Gossip Girl each week to see ‘Serena van der Woodsen’s city chic style, but it’s really her alter ego’s off-duty outfits that we adore.  Here are some ways to emulate Blake’s amazing look:

1. We especially love when she wears red to evening events, whether a short mini dress or a show stopping gown, turn heads at your next event by wearing a sexy red dress, but remember, don’t expose too much!  If you’re showing a lot of leg, keep the top covered up, and vice versa with showing cleavage.

2. Blake loves to show off her super toned legs in ‘short shorts’, dress them up like she does for a night out by pairing them with a basic button up white collared shirt and embellished jacket, or choose a frilly pair for a ‘boy meets girl’ twist.

3. Another colour Blake frequently wears is sky blue, and she rocks it for so many different occasions. Ladylike with covered shoulders and a full skirt, or body hugging and embellished for a gala event, bohemian and whimsical for anytime, and even for day time with a blue leather skirt ad sparkly top!

4. One thing we love about Blake is that she’s not afraid to stand out in a crowd, and what better way to do that then with sequins. Whether it’s a sparkly jacket, a tiered mini skirt, or patterned separates, she steels the spotlight in these sparkly ensembles! So throw on a sparkly jacket over a t-shirt and jeans, or go all the way with a sequined dress for a night out.

5. Even though we love blake in colours, there is something so sophisticated and polished about black and white, and Blake does it so well. From an easy white shirt and black leather pants, to a patterned dress, the boudoir trend is big for Fall, but Blake has been playing with sheer pieces for a long time. Whether she is showing off her midriff, or playing coy with a sheer look over her legs, we love how she incorporates it into her look for a peek-a-boo effect.

Take these easy tips to inject a little Blake Lively glamour into your wardrobe and everyday street style.

Summer with Paez!

It is common knowledge that Latin America is increasingly establishing it’s well earned mark within the international fashion arena and Argentina does not fall short of this reputation. With its mixture of bohemian urban cool and chilled countryside lifestyle combined with the countries cultural roots, the Argentines have developed a classic little piece of their history into an upcoming stylish fashion trend.

Based on the traditional alpargata shoe worn by the gaucho workers since 1830, PAEZ is a lightweight canvas shoe with a leather cushioned insole, light weight foam mid sole and an EVA rubber sole for traction. The canvas is designed to stretch and mould to the shape of your foot within six hours wear, so it is advised to get a pair that fits snug.

Since it’s launch in 2006 PAEZ has become an international hit with shoes flying of the racks in countries such as Hong Kong, Switzerland, Brazil, Italy, Portugal, the US and the UK, to name a few. Even fashion icons such as the Olsen twins have been spotted sporting a pair of these comfortable shoes as well as Local Durban DJ Funky G.

PAEZ made its official launch on South African soil in mid December 2010 after Justine Langford, PAEZ Brand Manager for South Africa, discovered the local shoe wandering the back streets of Buenos Aires during a backpacking trip through the South American continent. They are fast becoming a hit among fashion conscious shoppers country wide with stores in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Grahamstown.

PAEZ has now launched a range of mid high lace up boots as well as a childrens and babies range which are soon to be seen in stores around South Africa.

Unlike their competitor brands, PAEZ are born and raised in Argentina, making them 100% authentic. They support fair trade restrictions and are manufactured under strict no-sweatshop guidelines as well as ensuring minimal impact on the environment during and after their production process. All their packaging is eco friendly and the shoes come in eco friendly bags.

Alba's new addition...

THERE is often a brief spell of domestic chaos following a new arrival, but when Jessica Alba and Cash Warren invite us into their LA home, we're greeted by a scene of near zen-like calm.

Here the couple introduce six-week-old Haven Garner Warren, younger sister to daughter Honor (3).
And Jessica Alba and Cash - who met eight years ago on the set of Fantastic Four - chat to us about Haven's unusual birth, living in a female-dominated household, and keeping their romance alive."When Haven was born, I fell in love all over again," says Cash."It’s the most incredible experience.""Love at first sight," says Jessica."It did take a couple of days for it to sink in that I have another baby!"And while Cash loves his burgeoning family of girls, the situation does have one slight downside.  "There are lots of strong women around," says Jessica. "If there’s any discussion, Cash doesn’t win. Girls have the majority vote here!"

David Nicholls and his brilliance

I struggle to get through most books. Not sure how I managed to read all my set classics in time for my literature exams - as I'm not a natural at getting through books. But I suppose what keeps me at it are the few books that really move you, change the way you feel and how you see the world.  This one in particular was by David Nicholls, and I couldn't put it down.
Go read it, I insist (before watching the film!)

Some quotes to inspire you:
“What are you going to do with your life?" In one way or another it seemed that people had been asking her this forever; teachers, her parents, friends at three in the morning, but the question had never seemed this pressing and still she was no nearer an answer... "Live each day as if it's your last', that was the conventional advice, but really, who had the energy for that? What if it rained or you felt a bit glandy? It just wasn't practical. Better by far to be good and courageous and bold and to make difference. Not change the world exactly, but the bit around you. Cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully and well. Experience new things. Love and be loved, if you ever get the chance.”
“Just kidding' was exactly what people wrote when they meant every word.”
“If you have to keep a secret it's because you shouldn't be doing it in the first place”
“ feel a little bit lost right now about what to do with your life, a bit rudderless and oarless and aimless but that's okay that's alright because we're all meant to be like that at twenty-four.”
“The problem with all these fiercely individualistic girls was that they were all exactly the same.”
“And it was at moments like this that she had to remind herself that she was in love with him, or had once been in love with him, a long time ago.”
